KEY LARGO — Stillwright Point homeowners urged county officials last week to raise roads 7-14 inches in their flood-prone neighborhood and let them deal with water runoff into their yards.

None in attendance during last week’s community meeting expressed support for the county’s projected $41 million road adaption and stormwater project, which would require each owner to give up 10 feet along the front of their property for drainage systems and relocation of utilities, in addition to a possible capital assessment of $25,000 per home to help cover construction costs and an annual assessment for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of pump stations to drain and inject floodwater 80-100 feet below the surface.
