Developers are seeking approval to build a 49,340-square-foot Publix, a 350-square-foot office and 86 deed-restricted affordable workforce dwelling units at the former CEMEX property in Tavernier.

MARATHON — Perhaps no development in the Upper Keys has drawn such widespread public opposition as the proposed supermarket and workforce housing project at the former CEMEX property at mile marker 92.5, oceanside.

Yet, the project, due to the promise of affordable housing, continues to move forward with the backing of four elected county leaders who have expressed few qualms about going against public sentiment.
