LAKELAND — At the completion of the morning session during the Florida High School Athletics Association 1A Weightlifting State Championships, all three girls from the Marathon High School lightweight class lifters garnered at least one medal — a third from Ayme Maridiaga, two fifths from Ella Dunn and a fourth and sixth by Ella Evans, placing the Lady Fins in fourth with defending dual state champion Justice Lee Isom still to hit the mats on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
The Lady Fins junior was able to repeat as the FHSAA 1A Traditional Class Champion and placed second in the Olympic class to boost Marathon into second place overall and score the program’s first runner-up hardware. Coral Shores High School also had Janielle Arias raise the bar to second- and third-place medals and Sydeny Esyenbach took fourth and sixth to bring the Monroe County hardware haul to 11 medals, including one gold, two silver and two bronze, to go along with the state runner-up trophy.
