UPPER KEYS ā€” Tavernier family practice physician Dr. Brian Magrane shared shipwreck treasure coins history and ā€œhow to read the coinā€ at the free monthly lecture at Coral Isles Church hosted by the Historic Preservation Society of the Upper Keys.

A longtime collector, Magrane discussed famous treasure salvor Mel Fisher of Key West and showed a photo of him after success in his 1970s mission of finding the Nuestra SenĢƒora de Atocha. Fisher was pictured lying beside his diving suit, which was covered in gold coins he had retrieved from the ocean floor.
