Y’all know I love listening to the folks who bike or walk past my porch. Snatches of conversations float on the breezes, partial observations that when taken together weave a passable research study on what visitors think about our island. Mostly these are happy campers, delighted to be here and wishing they could stay longer.

Sometimes they’re flat-out lost. Striding purposefully toward the Eisenhower-Truman intersection at Bayview Park when they thought they were headed to Duval. Bickering about who made the mistake of turning the wrong way on the one way street. Stopping smack in the middle of the road to read that dog-eared map or to peer bleary-eyed into a smartphone screen in the sun’s glare. I’ll walk out to the gate to help when I can.
