After a 46-year wait for a berth in the Florida High School Athletic Association postseason, the Marathon baseball team will have to wait at least one more season to claim the program’s first state playoff victory since 1979 as district rival Fort Meade finished the two-game sweep during the Region 4-Rural semifinals with a 15-1 victory on Tuesday, April 29, on the Middle Keys campus.

A week prior, the Dolphins upended the Miners to claim Marathon’s first district championship since the ‘79 season, but in the best-of-three series opener, Fort Meade rallied late to take a one-game lead and push the ’Fins to the brink of elimination.
