The Monroe County School District on Tuesday, May 13, selected Edward C. Tierney as its first choice to offer the district’s superintendent position. If all goes well with contract negotiations, Tierney is set to become the district’s superintendent, replacing current superintendent Theresa Axford, who is retiring this summer after 40 years with the district.

The district voted unanimously in a meeting at Coral Shores High School for Tierney as their top choice. Among his distinctions, as expressed by the district board members, he was one of the two superintendent finalists who had proposed a 90-day plan to share what he intended to do during his first three months in the position.
