HONORING THE FALLEN

Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Team 3 member George ‘Al’ Veazey, a highly decorated veteran now living on Sugarloaf Key, recounts the loss of a friend while fighting in Afghanistan in 2002, at the Memorial Day remembrance Monday, May 26, at Southern Keys Cemetery on Big Coppitt Key. After reading a copy of a letter Petty Officer First Class (SEAL) Neil Roberts had written to his family in case he was killed, Veazey said he remembers his friend and all those that died in combat saying, ‘each night at sunset whether with a drink or not, I make a toast to all the men and women who gave their all and sacrificed for our country so that we can see another sunset that they never will.’
